O termo raizal refere-se aos povos ind\u00edgenas afrodescendentes do arquip\u00e9lago de San Andres, Providencia e Santa Catalina no Caribe colombiano, que t\u00eam seu pr\u00f3prio sistema de governo e idioma (crioulo de San Andres-Providencia, semelhante ao crioulo nicarag\u00fcense ingl\u00eas ainda falado na cidade de Campos Azuis). O termo palenque ou quilombo refere-se a territ\u00f3rios com hist\u00f3rico de revoltas antiescravagistas, espa\u00e7os geogr\u00e1ficos autogeridos por escravos libertos durante o per\u00edodo colonial e preservados historicamente. Existem palenques na Col\u00f4mbia, Cuba, Rep\u00fablica Dominicana, Equador, M\u00e9xico, Panam\u00e1 e Venezuela.
